Daytime Student Council in Medford hosts Spirit Week from May 7-11. Today students are encouraged to wear purple. Why? It’s to support Lupus Awareness Month.
According to the Mayo Clinic, “Lupus is a systemic autoimmune disease that occurs when your body’s immune system attacks your own tissues and organs. Inflammation caused by lupus can affect many different body systems—including your joints, skin, kidneys, blood cells, brain, heart and lungs.”
Public awareness of lupus remains low. Nearly two-thirds of the public knows little or nothing about the disease beyond the name.
We need your help to change that. Join the growing number of individuals, communities, media and celebrities that pump up the purple for lupus awareness month and tell people how they can donate or get involved.

There is a bake sale today, as well, with proceeds going to the Lupus Foundation of America.
