I have always been fascinated with the medical field and love the idea of being there for people during times that could be very trying.
During my early school years, I always spoke about being a nurse. As we know, sometimes things do not always go the way we anticipate.
In the start of my junior year of high school, I decided to go to school for cosmetology. Within the next two years, I graduated high school and received my New York State cosmetology license. I worked in a salon for a year after that, later moved on to manage a salon, and then decided to open up my own full service unisex salon. I enjoyed every minute of it. I guess you can say I still chose a career that helped people.
A few years later I got married, had two boys, and chose to give up my salon and work from home to be there for my boys. My children are now 19 and 21. I still had the thought of a medical career in the back of my mind, but now I felt that I was too old to go back to school. I hadn’t picked up a book in 20 years. I didn’t know if I would be able to handle the program.
My family and friends disagreed. They kept encouraging me, telling me it was never too late to follow my dreams. I visited Hunter Business School a few times prior to signing up. I fell in love with the program the first time I went to the open house, but I still doubted my ability to return to school.
Well, I finally made the decision to do something I have wanted to do for a very long time. My family has been very supportive, especially my kids. I started the program September 5th. I am in my last month. I go out on externship the end of March. I can’t wait to enter the medical field and see what the future holds.
Since my first day at Hunter, I never looked back. From day one I felt like I belonged here. The decision to follow my dreams after all these years has so far been very gratifying, and I could not have picked a better school to pursue my career. The teachers at Hunter are incredible. They go above and beyond to help you reach your potential and help you succeed.
