Pharmacology

An introduction to the methods of administrating medications, mathematical computations, and pharmaceutical measurements and calculations.

Communication and Human Relations

An introduction to patient relations in the medical office. You will learn about medical law and ethics and build communication skills to interact with physicians and patients.

Urinalysis and Microbiology

A medical assistant class on laboratory universal precautions with an emphasis on Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards and guidelines. You will learn the proper collection procedures for specimen and microscopic examination.

Keyboarding with Microsoft Word

Developing keyboarding and Microsoft Word skills with the touch method, keyboard mastery, and typing speed improvement.

Phlebotomy and Laboratory Procedures I & II

Two medical assistant classes focused on blood collection techniques, OSHA collection and handling procedures, venipuncture techniques, and the clinical chemistry associated with phlebotomy.

Anatomy and Physiology I & II with Medical Terminology

A two class review of medical terms relevant to a medical assistant’s role at a doctor’s office or other medical facility. You will learn about body structures, systems, and the language of medicine. Techniques will be reviewed to properly construct medical terminology using prefixes, suffixes, and root words.

Clinical Skills

A class that prepares you to manage medical records, document vital signs, assist physicians during physical examinations, and support specialty physician exams.

Medical Administrative and Business Practices

A medical assistant class introducing the history of health care systems and your duty as a medical assistant in administration. Course lectures include patient interactions, medical records management, and billing and coding.

Electrocardiography and Cardiac Testing

A medical assistant class that reviews the cardiovascular system and prepares you to perform cardiac testing procedures like EKG, Holter monitoring, and stress testing.

Computerized Billing and EMR

A review of your role in computerized billing and electronic medical records (EMR). You will learn how to manage medical software programs and input accurate patient demographics, medical procedures, and diagnoses to support insurance claims and post payments.

Certification Review with Career Development

An in-depth review of the skills needed to prepare for the Medical Assistant certification exam. This class also reviews your ability to complete an employment application and secure a job interview.

Externship

Additional training in a medical facility for real-world experience. You will observe experienced medical personnel and perform the duties of a medical assistant under the strict supervision of a trained professional.
